Phil Spencer, de topman van de Xbox One divisie bij Microsoft, heeft in een interview met The Guardian aangegeven dat er tijdens de levensduur van de Xbox One misschien sterkere consoles uitgebracht zullen worden. Spencer richt zich hierbij vooral op het uitgebreide Universal Windows Application systeem die zowel backwards als forwards compatibility moet vergemakkelijken. Volgens de topman is het ook een reactie op het verwijt dat heel wat Xbox One exclusives ook naar PC komen, iets wat de console de-evalueert. Deze zet van Microsoft zou echter het PC en Xbox One ecosysteem willen samenbrengen.
